Undergraduate
Each quarter, the UCSD Autism Intervention Research Program interviews motivated UCSD students who are interested in enrolling in the special studies course, PSYC 199. This is a unique opportunity for undergraduates to get "hands on" experience participating in psychological research. As a 199 in the UCSD Autism Intervention Research Program, you can expect to:
- Learn about autism spectrum disorders
- Learn about how behavioral interventions are developed for children with autism
- Assist with the implementation of research procedures
- Work with children with autism using research-based interventions (**not all 199 students will work directly with children with autism)
- Examine current issues in the field of applied behavior analysis and autism
- Gain valuable research experience coding observational data
- Experience working in a professional academic environment as a member of a research team
- Earn a letter of recommendation for graduate school that reflects your work in the research program and discusses your qualifications for a graduate program
- Receive upper division course credit
The prerequisites for the course include:
- Enrollment as an undergraduate at UCSD
- Junior or Senior class standing
- 3.0 GPA overall
- 2-quarter commitment for 12 hours/week
- Computer knowledge preferred
- Completion of one or more of the following courses Psyc 103, 120, 154, 163, 168 preferred
